As Unto the Lord

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,"
Colossians 3:23

This verse was heavy on my heart today as I thought about the life of a mother. So many times we get frustrated because we go go go all day and feel like no one appreciates anything we do. I know how it feels when you feel like your day has flown by and you have crossed off 15 things on your "to do" list only to realize that you still have 15 more things that did not get done. Not to mention that those close to you only noticed what you did not do. It is so easy to feel like giving up. We begin to have what my dad used to say, a "pity party". As mothers, we give all day for our children taking them here and there and making sure they are taken care of and we want the best for them. We try to clean the house and cook and be the super mom that we think we should be. Then when no one appreciates us we feel like "what is the point?" Reality check…did you expect your kids or your husband to say "thank you" or "good job"? Maybe it slipped their mind or maybe they too have a lot going on. When our focus turns from pleasing the Lord to pleasing men, we can quickly get a bad attitude and when the family does not notice your hard work, they will definitely notice your bad attitude. This scripture tells us that we should not work to get recognition from people but we should do our best, with all of heart because we want to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I think we sometimes forget about this verse and we can let the stresses of life and the cares of this world really get us down. When we give 100% for no one but the Lord, it makes a huge difference in our attitude. I try to teach my kids that they should please the Lord in everything they do. When they learn this, they will in turn please you, their teachers and those that God has put over them throughout their lives. When we work as unto the Lord, it will change our attitude about life. As moms we need to make sure our mind set is on pleasing the Lord and when no one notices just how hard you work, just remember, God notices and that is really all that matters.
