Well, after watching the disturbing Dr. Oz videos the other day, I decided that I want to provide as much healthy and organic meat for my family as possible. We are on a tight budget so we will have to do this gradually and start weeding out things that we don't need so that we can afford more healthy food. Trying to save money and clip coupons is very important but I feel that it is just as important to serve healthy food because you are saving your health (which will also save you money in the long run)... So, I thought, I will head down to my supermarket and catch the organic meat when it is marked down. Wow!
I was surprised at how achieveable this was! I went this morning to my local supermarket. I paid the same price for marded down organic meat that I would have paid for the non-organic meat at a non-sale price. It was about $36 but that will provide about 12 meals. I picked up 2 whole chickens because they were much cheaper by the lb. then the breasts. Although it is a little more work, I can just cook the entire chicken in the crockpot and then spread it out into several meals. I also found that the organic milk was marked down to $.99 for the half gallon which again is a great price because we stocked up on the gallons of non-organic milk at $1.98 as that was a good price. Keep in mind that when the price is reduced, you only have a few days to either use it or freeze it. So why not try the organic? Let's recap:
Tip #1 - Find out when your grocery store marks down the meat. Just ask the someone who works in the meat department.
Tip #2 - Find out when or if your grocery store marks down the dairy products.
Tip #3 - Use or freeze the products within a few days (be sure to check the date).
Tip #4 - Pick up a whole chicken. Cook in the crockpot and use it for several meals. (Don't forget to save that chicken broth!)
Tip #5 - Check back soon to find out where to get coupons for organic, healthy and whole foods!
